Your Kids' Data Stays in Your House
Most education apps upload your children's names, grades, photos, and progress to someone else's servers. You have no idea who sees it, who sells it, or where it ends up. Nookery is different.
What's a Raspberry Pi?
It's a tiny computer — about the size of a deck of cards — that costs around $50. You plug it into your home router, and it quietly runs Nookery for every device on your WiFi. That's it. No monthly fees. No internet required. Your family's private school server, sitting on a shelf in your house.
Zero Data Leaves Your Home
Lesson plans, grades, student work, medical records, transcripts — everything stays on a device you physically own. There's no cloud account to create, no company storing your children's information, and no terms of service that let someone mine your family's data. It's yours. Period.
No Tech Skills Needed
If you can plug in a toaster, you can set up Nookery. We provide a ready-to-use image you flash onto an SD card with a one-click tool. Insert the card, plug in the Pi, and you're teaching within 5 minutes. Step-by-step instructions with pictures are included for every step.
No Monthly Fees
A one-time $50 hardware purchase replaces ongoing subscription costs. No per-student pricing, no premium tier to unlock features, no surprise charges. Every tool, every feature, every update — included. You buy the Pi once and use Nookery forever.
From Unboxing to Teaching in 5 Steps
- Buy a Raspberry Pi Pick up a Raspberry Pi 4 or Pi 5 from Amazon, Best Buy, or any electronics store. It costs $50–$80. You'll also need a basic SD card ($8) and a USB-C power cable ($10).
- Download the Nookery Image Grab our free, pre-built setup image from the Nookery website. It's a single file with everything pre-configured — no terminal commands, no technical knowledge required.
- Flash the SD Card Use our one-click flash tool (works on Mac and Windows). Insert your SD card, select the Nookery image, and click one button. It takes about 3 minutes.
- Plug It In Slide the SD card into your Raspberry Pi. Connect it to your home router with the included ethernet cable. Plug in the power. A green light means it's running.
- Start Teaching Open a browser on any tablet, phone, or computer on your home WiFi. Type in the address shown in the setup guide. Create your parent account, add your students, and you're ready to go.
8 Hands-On Tools Kids Actually Want to Use
Every tool is designed for touch screens. Kids drag, draw, tap, and build — turning abstract concepts into something they can see and move with their fingers.
Interactive Whiteboard
A full drawing canvas where kids solve problems, diagram sentences, sketch science experiments, or just draw. Pen colors, eraser, shapes, text boxes, and stickers. Save boards and revisit them later. Works like a real whiteboard — but better, because nothing gets accidentally erased.
Math Manipulatives
Drag-and-drop base-10 blocks for place value. Counting chips for addition and subtraction. Fraction tiles for visualizing halves, thirds, and quarters. The same hands-on math tools teachers use in classrooms — on your tablet, always ready, never lost under the couch.
Number Line
Kids tap to place markers and draw jump arcs for skip counting, addition, and subtraction. Adjustable range for any grade level — from counting to 10 for kindergartners to negative numbers for older students. Makes abstract number relationships visible.
Magnetic Board
A virtual fridge magnet board with drag-and-drop letters, numbers, shapes, and stickers. Kids spell words, build equations, sort shapes, and create scenes. Pieces resize, rotate, and snap into place. Perfect for early learners who need tactile, playful interaction.
Shapes & Polygons
Circles, triangles, squares, pentagons, hexagons, and polygons up to 10 sides. Kids drag, resize, rotate, and color-code shapes. Explore symmetry, tessellation, and geometry concepts by building with shapes directly on screen.
Tally Marks
A simple, satisfying counting tool. Kids tap the plus button and watch tally marks appear in groups of five. Great for data collection projects, science observations, and early math where counting needs to feel real and physical.
Cue Card Presenter
Build card decks with text, images, and prompts, then present them full-screen like a slideshow. Perfect for vocabulary drills, history timelines, science facts, or any lesson where you want to walk through content one card at a time with your child.
PDF Slide View
Import any PDF — worksheets, textbook pages, coloring sheets — and display them as full-screen slides with an annotation overlay. Kids can write directly on the PDF, circle answers, and highlight text. No printing required.
Organized Parents, Happy Families
Spend Sunday evening planning. Spend Monday morning teaching — not scrambling. Nookery keeps every lesson, resource, and schedule in one place so you always know what's next.
Lesson Builder
Build rich, multi-section lessons with metadata, cue card decks, PDF worksheets, and sortable activities. Every lesson is versioned automatically — edit freely knowing you can always go back to a previous version. Reuse lessons across students or school years.
Resource Library
One place for every link, file, video, and reference — organized by subject with custom categories. Found a great math worksheet online? Save it. Downloaded a science PDF? File it. When lesson planning, everything is searchable and ready.
Weekly Schedule
A visual calendar where you drag lessons into time slots and assign them to specific students. See your entire week at a glance — what's being taught, when, and to whom. Rearranging is as simple as dragging a card to a new slot.
Prep Tasks
Nookery reads your schedule and automatically generates a prep list: materials to gather, worksheets to print, supplies to buy. Add your own tasks too. Grouped by date, so you know exactly what to prepare for each day of the week.
Document Vault
Secure, organized storage for the documents that matter: transcripts, attendance records, certificates, medical forms, immunization records, and legal paperwork. Organized by type and student, with signed URL viewing for security. Always ready when you need them.
Every Child Gets Their Own Desk
Kids log into their own view and see exactly what they need to do today. No distractions, no confusion. Just their assignments, their tools, and a clear path through the day.
Student Desk
Each child gets a personal dashboard showing today's assignments, submission forms, and reflection prompts. They can submit written work, upload photos of hands-on projects, and write about what they learned. It's their space — designed to feel encouraging, not overwhelming.
Schoolroom
The day view showing all scheduled sessions in order. Start a session, mark it complete, or skip it if life happens. Preview cue cards during instruction, track assignment status in real time, and keep the day moving at your family's pace.
Reviews & Grading
Filter student submissions by status — pending, reviewed, needs revision. Give quality ratings, write feedback, and track progress over time. Everything in one place, so grading doesn't become a second job. Catch patterns early and celebrate growth.
Multi-Student Families
Teaching a 6-year-old and a 12-year-old? Each student has their own profile, grade level, and assignments. Share lessons across students or customize for each. Built for the reality of families teaching children at different ages and stages.
Any Screen in Your Home Is a Classroom
- Tablets (Recommended) — iPad and Android tablets are the ideal teaching devices. The 10"+ screen gives kids room to draw, drag manipulatives, and interact with tools comfortably
- Phones — Works on iPhone and Android phones for quick access on the go. Check schedules, review submissions, or read assignments from anywhere
- Computers — Full web app runs in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge on any laptop or desktop. Great for parents who prefer lesson planning on a bigger screen
- Family Accounts — Parent and student roles with age-appropriate access. Parents see everything. Students see their desk, their assignments, and their tools. Nothing more, nothing less
- Multiple Devices — Use 2 tablets, a phone, and a laptop at the same time. Everyone connects to the same Nookery instance over your home WiFi. No per-device limits
Don't Want to Set Up Hardware? No Problem.
Not every family wants to buy a Raspberry Pi, and that's perfectly fine. Nookery also works with our cloud service — access your homeschool from anywhere, on any device, with automatic backups and sync. Your data is encrypted end-to-end and never shared with third parties. Use whichever option fits your family: self-hosted for maximum privacy, or cloud for maximum convenience. You can even start with one and switch to the other later.
Built by a Parent. Built for Families.
Nookery is COPPA-aware and designed from the ground up to protect your children's information. With the Raspberry Pi option, all data stays physically in your home — it never touches the internet. With the cloud option, everything is encrypted in transit and at rest, and we never share data with third parties. There are no ads in Nookery. No tracking pixels. No analytics that follow your kids around the web. No data selling — ever. Your family's learning journey is nobody's business but yours.
